For this post I decided to make use of my journalism skills that I’m learning as a Mass Communications major and interview an athlete about their thoughts of Nike compared to other athletic brands. His name is Teejay and he plays football for SUNY Albany in New York. Prior to the interview I did not inform him of the theme of my blog so I could get the most unbiased answers. Here is the short interview below:
Me: When you think of gear for sports what brand first comes to mind?
Me: What is your first choice of clothing when you play sports?
Me: Do you think most other athletes would feel this way also?
Teejay: Yes, I think they would choose it without question.
Me: What do you think makes this company so popular and appealing to athletes?
Teejay: The advertising they use. They also use the best athletes to promote their shoes, clothing, and brand overall. All of their commercials make you want to workout or play something. Also because they’ve been around so long that you just trust that their stuff is going to be the best.
What I got from this is that the way Nike markets itself has allowed it to gain popularity to not just athletes but also people who don’t play sports and just want some quality shoes or clothing. Its also evident that the longer something is around the stronger the brand becomes.
